I'm about 120 pages into "Man Gone Down" by Michael Thomas. It's one of those books that does a great job explaining a time and place. The time being the present and the place being Brooklyn. I also enjoy when authors add new words to the lexicon. The people gentrifying Brooklyn are described as "...neopioneers - a strange breed of professional liberal whites, bankers and lawyers and midlevel media folk." I guess that's my new label. Anyway, book is pretty good so far.
